Allah(SWT) commands us in Quran…
And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. [Surah Nooh (24:32)]….
Marriage is a pivotal institution in the lives of all Muslims and non Muslims alike. Majority of the scholars agree that it is a highly recommended act, it becomes obligatory when there is a chance of falling into sin. Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid said “anyone who looks at the state of things in our times, how there is so much immorality and so much temptation, will be convinced that the obligation to marry is even more important now than at any time in the past.”
Despite the numerous virtues and lofty rewards associated with marriage, we find ourselves in a time where marriages are failing while divorce is on a record rise. This, according to Mallam Abdul Mumin Jafar, can be partly attributed to the nature of our wedding ceremonies (waleemah). The “Adanko deka” man explained that our wedding parties have evolved from the proper sunnatic way to include acts of immorality and extravaggance. We spend so much money to impress guests and to engage in haraam activities like music and dance fiesta, where males and females mingle in a very filthy and ignoble setting.
These, he said could jeopardize the entire marriage life of the couple. He advised Muslim youth who wish to get married to exercise moderation and avoid the things that will invite the wrath of Allah(SWT) upon them.
