In 2013, a surgery was carried out to extract a tumor in her spine and she healed. In 2016, she had a second surgery due to a recurrent tumor. Twelve months after the 2016 surgery, she was no longer able to walk; the tumor was recurring, as such, she had no option but to succumb to a third surgery in 2017. After the 2017 surgery, there was a complication. A metal implant used to fix the spine shifted out of place and was putting pressure on the spinal cord. A new complication set in and fluid began to accumulate in the spine, a condition known as Syringomelia. In 2019, she went to India to have the metal implant fixed in order to cure the Syringomelia. Since 2016, she has been paralyzed from the waist down.

However, the current diagnosis shows the Syringomelia did not show any sign of healing and had started to open up. This has raised a sense of urgency for another procedure to drain the fluid from the spine to prevent further expansion. Once the fluid expands into the upper spinal area, she will lose the power in her upper limbs too, that would worsen her case, and she would practically not be able to use any of her limbs. Meanwhile, she is also losing bladder and bowel control.

She is currently suffering from many complications besides not being able to walk since 2016:

·        She has developed serious blisters on her skin resulting from surgery infections.

·        She is constantly dealing with different intensities of pain in the form of burning sensations, tingling and vibration from her waist down into her legs

·        Due to severe pain she is not able to work, as she cannot sit continuously beyond an hour
. Failure to lie down and relax her waist after an hour of sitting causes severe contraction at the waist, which makes lying down a calculated event for her.

·        Frequent consumption of antibiotics and painkillers for such a long time has made her prone to side effects and resistance to the drugs, which are also detrimental to her health.

·        Since 2016 her once active life is centered on sitting and lying down. She is not even able to crawl. It’s such a difficult situation for her.

What is needed now is a comprehensive treatment plan to drain the fluid and a process known as Epidural Stimulation in order to prevent the spine from further deterioration to save her from becoming a quadriplegic. This treatment would also help her to regain her lost functions to a large extent.

A surgical procedure that will cost a total of about $45000 for this treatment is urgently required as she has about 2 more months to curb the damage Managing this condition has been a huge burden on her family’s finances. This current treatment is something we really cannot afford, and the reason for the need to seek support from well-meaning individuals to support her Surgery.
