Government of Ghana have been admonished to enforce by-laws that would compel all livestock to be slaughtered under hygienic conditions at Abattoirs to ensure proper handling of meat and the safety of consumers.

Mr Sabtiu Musah, Chief Executive Officer for Sabtiu Musah Abattoir and a member of Ghana Butchers Association who gave the advice also called for stricter enforcement of the by-laws to regulate the indiscriminate use of car tyres at butchering sites.

He indicated that the laws should make it compulsory for all animals to be tested for various diseases to ascertain their health status before they are killed expressing worry over their indiscriminate killing.

Mr. Sabtui also observed that the illegal livestock slaughtering houses was negatively affecting the operations of the Ghana Butchers Association.

He however expressed worry about the mode of transporting meat from the slaughter houses to the market centres; admitting that it was not the best as the vehicle transporting the meat conveyed people at the same time.
